A pair of top stars from the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks are seen by many of their fellow NBA competitors as the most overrated players in the league.
In many sports, athletes often complain about voting from fans and media that decides All-Star and other notable honors in their league. They argue that those groups don’t truly understand the game like fellow players and coaches. To them, votes from their colleagues are the most meaningful opinions in the industry.

Well, a few players are not going to be thrilled by a recent poll by The Athletic. On Tuesday, the outlet published the results of various questions posed to 108 players in the NBA. Obviously, they were asked popular questions like who they felt is the 2022-2023 NBA MVP (Joel Embiid was the top choice) or who is the greatest of all time (unsurprisingly, Michael Jordan won by a landslide).
However, the juiciest question asked was what NBA player is the most overrated. Of the 54 players who answered this question, the top vote-getter — beyond “other” — was Atlanta Hawks superstar Trae Young with 14%. That result for the two-time All-Star can’t be too surprising after a down season that included a bunch of locker-room drama and the team barely making the playoffs.
After Young, New York Knicks and Toronto Raptors All-Stars Julius Randle and Pascal Siakam were tied with 7.4% of the vote. Randle and the Knicks actually had a fantastic season, however, while he gets much of the attention New York fans would probably agree that Jalen Brunson has quickly become the heart of their current team.
While Siakam is often viewed as the top star in Toronto, various rumors and reports from around the league have also painted a picture that his value may not be as high among rival teams as some fans and NBA observers may think.
