An AFC East insider offered up a major update on the New York Jets and New England Patriots’ pursuit of Dalvin Cook and one of the teams being the current favorite.
Pretty much all the top players available in March on the NFL free agency market have picked the teams they will be playing for this season. However, in June a pair of multi-time Pro Bowlers were dropped onto the market well after most teams used up their available funds. Those stars are DeAndre Hopkins and Dalvin Cook.
Hopkins ended his run in free agency last week when he agreed to a contract with the Tennessee Titans. However, 2022 Pro Bowler Dalvin Cook is still unemployed just a week away from the start of training camps. However, his unemployment will eventually end and a certain team from New York is seen as one of the favorites to acquire his services.
New York Jets still a ‘front-runner’ to sign Dalvin Cook for 2023 NFL season
On Friday, FOX Sports AFC reporter Henry McKenna revealed “The New York Jets remain one of the front-runners to sign free-agent running back Dalvin Cook, according to sources close to the situation.”
However, it is a busy chase for the four-time Pro Bowler. McKenna claims that as many as six NFL teams are pursuing Dalvin Cook and fellow AFC East squads in the New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins are also in strong positions to add the man that’s run for 1,100 or more yards in four of his six pro seasons.
The former Minnesota Vikings star is being sued by an ex-girlfriend who is claiming the running back assaulted her. He is counter-suing for defamation. That ongoing litigation is believed to be one of the key holdups in his free agent market. There is a good chance that once that is resolved so will his future in the NFL.
Cook was a salary cap casualty for the Vikings despite being a Pro Bowler for the team over the last four seasons.
