New York Giants could still pair Jameis Winston with a Pro Bowl QB

The New York Giants started the offseason in desperate need of a quarterback upgrade after a disastrous season that resulted in a 3-14 record. In 2024, the Giants split starts between Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito and Drew Lock. Only DeVito is set to return next season, likely as the No. 3 QB.

Yet, when the Giants recently signed Jameis Winston, some took it as a sign that they were done pursuing the likes of Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson, both of whom they’ve been linked to in free agency. However, that may not be the case at all.

As of now, Jameis Winston is projected to be the New York Giants’ starting quarterback in 2025. Boasting the third pick in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Giants could add a rookie like Shedeur Sanders or Jaxson Dart.

However, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, there’s still a possibility that the Giants add Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers to their roster this offseason.

“In response to our assessment that the Giants won’t be pursuing another veteran signal-caller, one source explained that Winston was signed to be the backup quarterback. And that Wilson should not be ruled out. ‘They are as much/more looking for a veteran starter than the Browns, definitely more than Vikings,’ the source said. The source added that the Giants technically remain in the mix for Aaron Rodgers, but that it currently ‘seems unlikely’ he’ll go there.”

The Giants are entirely focused on trying to drastically improve upon the three wins they carved out last season. While finding a future franchise quarterback is always the goal, the Giants may be perfectly content adding a pair of highly capable veterans instead.
