New Vikings RB Latavius Murray had ankle surgery, should be ready for training camp

Latavius Murray

The Minnesota Vikings signed Latavius Murray to a three-year contract in free agency. Days later they announced he underwent ankle surgery.

In a prepared statement, the Vikings were aware of Murray needing his ankle surgery before signing him to the deal, which is worth up to $15 million. The team also made it clear that Murray is expected to be fully healthy and ready for training camp this summer.

The past two seasons, Murray has been highly productive for the Oakland Raiders. He rushed for 1,854 yards with 18 touchdowns in 2015-16, adding 496 yards on 74 receptions.

Essentially, the Vikings hired Murray to be the replacement for Adrian Peterson, who will not be returning to Minnesota. Interestingly, the two players both wore No. 28 throughout their careers. Out of respect for Peterson and his accomplishments, however, Murray will be wearing another number for the Vikings.
