Current Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans and future Hall of Famer Randy Moss have a few things in common.
They both played high school basketball before becoming college football stars. Evans broke the single-season Buccaneers record by scoring 12 touchdowns as a rookie in 2014. Moss set the single-season rookie record with 17 scores as a rookie in 1998. Additionally, both receivers possess the ability to make contested catches with their long arms and vertical presence.
Moss and Evans also spent a week working out together earlier in the offseason. Evans, entering his second season in the NFL, had this to say about his experience working with the legendary Moss:
“It was just me and him,” Evans said, via the Bucs’ official website. “I was up for there in North Carolina for about a week at the end of March. There’s a lot of knowledge there, man.”
It appears Evans can’t wait to take what he learned from Moss out onto the field:
“I think he’s the best to ever do it,” Evans added. “Working with him, I think it will take my game to the next level.”
Not only could Evans benefit from the time he spent with Moss, he is now working with former Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter. It is reported that the Evans will be adapting to the play style that was used when Koetter worked with Julio Jones. Can we imagine what is in store for Evans this season considering what he produced during what was an incredible rookie year? The 6-foot-5 receiver tallied 68 receptions and 1,051 yards to go with those 12 touchdowns.
With improved play calling and a studly young quarterback in Jameis Winston, Evans could easily improve from his outstanding rookie campaign.
