Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has been a model of consistently at the plate, and until Friday, he’d been a consistent fixture in the lineup, too.
However, Cabrera’s 12-plus year streak of avoiding the disabled list has come to a close. He sustained a leg injury while sprinting to second base as part of a hit-and-run in the bottom of the fourth inning against the Toronto Blue Jays. Watch the video here.
The Tigers announced Cabrera has been placed on the 15-day DL, but the 32-year-old will be on the shelf for an extended period of time.
According to George Sipple of the Detroit Free Press, Cabrera is expected to miss six weeks due to a Grade 3 left calf strain.

Andrew Romine replaced Cabrera during the 8-6 victory on Friday, and the Tigers purchased the contract of Toledo Mud Hens infielder Jefry Marte.
