Super Bowl 50 will get an early injection of life with a concert by Bay Area band Metallica, which is scheduled to play in San Francisco at AT&T Park on Saturday, February 6.
Metallica’s guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield, who is happy to be part of the festivities, broke the news on Monday morning, via San Francisco’s radio station Live 105.
“I am super stoked,” he said during the radio spot (h/t mercurynews.com). “We are a local band … we have to be involved somehow.”
Hetfield calls himself a “football fan since birth” and wasn’t shy about expressing his allegiance to his favorite team during the radio spot. He said the Super Bowl will consist of the “Raiders vs. who?”
The Super Bowl eve concert will be the first Metallica get-together since the band played at the Outside Lands festival in 2012 at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.
For those planning on getting a jump start on the Super Bowl festivities by attending Metallica’s concert, tickets go on sale Friday. More information can be obtained at metallica.com. Super Bowl 50 takes place on Sunday, February 7 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa, Clara, CA.
