Pittsburgh Steelers fans swarmed Dignity Health Sports Park Sunday night and took over the stadium, which is the temporary home to the Los Angeles Chargers. It was quite literally hard to find Chargers fans in the stadium, and for all intents and purposes it was a Steelers home game.
As if that weren’t hard enough for the home team, at one point the stadium started blasting “Renegade,” which is Pittsburgh’s theme music. Afterward, Melvin Gordon shared his thoughts on that, and it’s clear he is very upset.
It’s hard to blame Gordon for being upset about this. Ever since the Chargers moved away from San Diego, they’ve been dealing with playing essentially 16 road games a year. Fans from the road teams they face typically vastly outnumber the Chargers fans in the stands.
That’s humiliating enough. To have your own home stadium then play the opposing team’s theme music is just brutal.
