After one year away from the island of Maui, the Maui Invitational will return to its usual home at the Lahaina Civic Center this November.
Wildfires on the island killed 101 people last year, and the Lahaina Civic Center was not damaged but became a hub to help displaced residents. The high-profile, early-season college basketball tournament moved to Honolulu for the year.
“We are tremendously excited to bring the tournament back to where it belongs this November,” the Maui Invitational X account posted Thursday.
The tournament will be played Nov. 25-27, in its usual spot during the first half of Thanksgiving week.
Next year’s field will include Auburn, Colorado, Dayton, Iowa State, Memphis, Michigan State, North Carolina and UConn, the current defending national champion. All eight of those teams have spent some part of this season ranked in the AP Top 25 poll.
