The Carolina Panthers are releasing left tackle Matt Kalil. The team announced the move on Thursday afternoon.
The team will incur a dead cap hit of $4.9 million in 2019, and $9.8 million in 2020. This is a Post June 1st designation, per Spotrac.
Kalil, a former first-round pick by Minnesota, was brought in as a high-priced free agent by Carolina back in 2017. Most people who cover the NFL hailed it as a huge mistake, and it proved to be just that for the Panthers.
After a brutal 2017 season, Kalil missed all of last season with a knee injury.
