The Miami Marlins made a series of moves Friday, highlighted by their activation of outfielder Starling Marte from the injured list while also placing starting shortstop Miguel Rojas on the 10-day IL.

To clear room for Marte on the roster, Miami optioned first baseman Lewin Diaz to Triple-A Jacksonville. The team also selected infielder Luis Marte to make up for the loss of Rojas.

Starling Marte, 32, has been on the injured list since April 20 with a fractured left rib and most recently served a rehab assignment at Jacksonville.

In 15 games with the Marlins this season, the 2016 All-Star has hit .316 with two home runs, eight RBIs and 15 runs scored. He is a .287 career hitter in 10 seasons and has posted 30 or more stolen bases five times while also recording double digits in home runs five times.

Rojas, also 32, dislocated his left index finger diving back into first base in the Marlins’ loss Thursday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Manager Don Mattingly later told media members that Rojas was in serious pain and had to have his finger put back in place after immediately leaving the game.

In his eighth season, Rojas is hitting .275 with three home runs and 16 RBIs in 47 games. Last season his posted a career-high .304 batting average in 40 games.

Diaz, 24, went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts on May 27 in his only game with the Marlins this season. He hit .154 (6-for-39) with three RBIs in 14 games in 2020, his first action in the majors.

Luis Marte posted a .263 average with three homers and 11 RBIs in 18 games at Jacksonville before being called up. The 27-year-old’s first game with the Marlins will mark his big league debut.
