Mark Ingram on C.J. Spiller: “He’s a Special Player”

The New Orleans Saints’ running back duo of Mark Ingram and newly signed C.J. Spiller could be quite impressive this upcoming season.

One person who is already impressed is Ingram himself. He had this to say about Spiller in an interview with ESPN.

He’s a special player. He’s a game-breaker, can take it to the house no matter where he is on the field, punt return, kick return, pass, run. So I’m looking forward to it.

It wasn’t anything strange or anything when we signed him. I talked to him before it even got announced.

Both running backs will offer different skill sets under Sean Payton’s offense. With his receiving abilities, Spiller could fill that void that was evident by the loss of Darren Sproles.

However, the addition of Spiller to the team could take a cut into the 226 attempts that Ingram recorded last season. During the course of his career in Buffalo, Spiller managed two fantastic seasons in 2011 and 2012 where he averaged 5.6 yards per carry on a total of 314 attempts.

We are likely going to see a heavy dose of both backs in an attempt to relieve the pressure on quarterback Drew Brees, who has thrown 48 interceptions over the past three seasons.
