Marcellus Crutchfield, son of Sooners legend Gerald McCoy, commits to Oklahoma

Marcellus Crutchfield, the son of Carolina Panthers and former Oklahoma star Gerald McCoy, will play college ball for the Sooners.

Crutchfield announced his decision to declare for the University of Oklahoma on Twitter Friday morning.

The past two years playing for Tampa Bay Catholic School, Crutchfield, a receiver, caught 61 passes for 1,225 yards and eight touchdowns.

A former quarterback, Crutchfield almost gave up on football entirely after his family moved to Tampa Bay when his father was drafted by the Buccaneers.

“I played for like a year or two down here, and I couldn’t start at quarterback for the team I played for because the coach’s son was there,” Crutchfield said, per the Tampa Bay Times. “After that experience, I really didn’t like football that much anymore.”

Then, he regained his passion for the game, converted to receiver, and started to shine. Now he’ll be playing for one of the nation’s most innovative and successful offensive coaches in Lincoln Riley, and we cannot wait to see what happens next.
