On Wednesday, just hours before the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Seoul Series finale, a bombshell report dropped regarding Shohei Ohtani and his Japanese translator allegedly being involved in a massive theft involving millions of dollars.
Naturally, despite the Dodgers being back in action on Thursday, losing a firework-filled game to the Padres 15-11, all anyone wanted to talk about was Ohtani’s potential involvement in the latest baseball scandal.
Yet, the Dodgers were sure to protect their new face of the franchise with bubble wrap, preventing Ohtani from having a chance to tell his side of the story.
According to Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post, the Dodgers’ public relations team carefully protected Ohtani as he changed in front of his locker. They also instructed the media that Ohtani would not address them.
Of course, the mob of reporters wouldn’t take no for an answer and peppered him with questions anyway. This prompted Ohtani to say what Japanese translators described as “have a good night.” Dodgers officials then escorted him out of the stadium, where he’ll be headed back to the United States.
Ohtani wrapped up his day by going 1-for-5 with a sacrifice fly to right field, helping the Dodgers score their second run of the game, but again, no one cared about his performance in the four-run loss.
Without getting a meaningful update, the chase for Ohtani information continues. The Dodgers’ next game is on Sunday, at 7:10 PM ET, with his former team, the Angels visiting Dodger Stadium.
