There’s an old saying in baseball that says “you can never have enough starting pitching.” This is definitely true for the Los Angeles Dodgers in regards to starter Hyun-Jin Ryu.
The Dodgers have just placed Ryu on the 15-day disabled list with left-shoulder inflammation.

According to Ken Gurnick of MLB.com, the injury flared up in his last start, when he gave up five earned runs in five innings to the Colorado Rockies. The silver lining with the injury is that Ryu won’t need an MRI on his shoulder.
Mattingly said Ryu has shoulder inflammation. Cropped up after last start and did not improve. No MRI planned.

Ryu was pitching well in the rotation for Los Angeles before the injury occurred. He had a 3.00 ERA in 39 innings pitched across seven starts, including striking out 31 batters and only surrendering one home run.
Los Angeles is set to begin a three-game series with the Miami Marlins on Friday. Ryu was set to pitch in the third game, on May 4, but that obviously won’t happen. Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times reported that the team will call up a new starting pitcher, rather than moving someone up or down in the rotation.
Dodgers put Ryu on disabled list. Will call up starter for Sunday. Chone Figgins, Jose Dominguez recalled. Paco Rodriguez sent down

Though the Dodgers will lose a vital member in their rotation with Ryu going down, they’re expected to get a big boost as Clayton Kershaw is expected to start Tuesday.
