It is no secret that the Los Angeles Dodgers are looking to upgrade their pitching staff ahead of the MLB trade deadline, and it seems that the organization is looking to take a flier on a struggling two-time All-Star in the American League.
It’s another season and as per usual, the Los Angeles Dodgers are sitting atop the National League West as we close in on August. Yet, for as good as the 58-43 team has been this season, they are not a vintage Dodgers title contender. Especially when it comes to their starting rotation.

As the organization nears this year’s trade deadline, the priority is to improve a pitching staff that is in the bottom 10 in ERA and earned runs, and middle of the road in quality starts and saves. After not making major moves in the winter, they are relying on aging team legend Clayton Kershaw to be their ace at a time in his career when he is well past his prime. That just won’t do despite a strong season from Kershaw.
Los Angeles Dodgers record (2023): 58-43
It is a recipe for disaster and is why they have been linked to several of the notable starting pitchers in this year’s trade market. With Chicago White Sox ace Lucas Giolitto now off the board, it seems the Los Angeles Dodgers are hot in pursuit of the team’s other talented arm that is up for grabs.
On Wednesday, MLB Network insider Jon Morosi revealed that “The Dodgers remain involved in Lance Lynn trade conversations with the White Sox.” Another fascinating piece of information from the report is that Los Angeles is reportedly on the two-time All-Stars list of teams that he can block a trade to. However, “he is willing to waive his no-trade protection to facilitate a deal.”
- Lance Lynn stats (2023): 6-9 record, 6.47 ERA, 1.462 WHIP, 144 SO, 119.2 IP
Lance Lynn is a 12-year veteran that has pitched for the Cardinals, Twins, Yankees, Rangers, and most recently the White Sox. He has been an All-Star on two occasions and made a trip to the game in 2021 for Chicago. However, he is having a down season and owns a 6.47 ERA in 15 starts this season. He is near or has already surpassed his career worse numbers for earned runs and home runs this season.
