At a time when many MLB teams are heated with the Houston Astros for allegedly stealing signs, it now appears that players are coming after each other for potential cheating.
When someone posted a video suggesting that the Milwaukee Brewers stole signs and highlighted a specific moment. It came in a game where Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Christian Yelich looked towards the outfield then back at Darvish before Darvish stepped off the mound.
When another baseball fan pointed out that Darvish stepped off the mound first, which led to Yelich looking away from the pitcher, Darvish defended himself.
It didn’t take long before Yelich became aware and quickly escalated the discussion into an exchange of Twitter jabs. The 2018 NL MVP suggested Darvish don’t make allegations then took a huge shot at the All-Star pitcher.
Yelich should certainly feel confident facing Darvish on the mound given he’s hit two home runs off of him and collected four hits in 11 at-bats.
Darvish came back at Yelich shortly after, first suggesting he wasn’t suggesting he stole signs then following that up in his next tweet by directly saying he is.
It’s extremely rare to see MLB players take to social media to start exchanging in Twitter wars, but perhaps that’s something that will become a storyline of the 2019 offseason.
As more details come out about MLB teams stealing signs, it could certainly lead to more heated exchanges between players in the months to come.
