Update: The NASCAR Cup Series race weekend at Homestead Miami Speedway is still on as scheduled but the video below is reflective of just how close this fire is to the track and why it may need to pull from emergency response entities that otherwise would be working this event.

A grass fire near Homestead-Miami Speedway continued to burn into Wednesday night but the NASCAR Cup Series weekend remains on schedule.

U.S. Highway 1 has intermittently shut down so fire fighters and emergency vehicles can work to contain its spread. Active fires that are burning under high voltage power lines have caused several brief outages in the region but ‘minor tower damage’ is expected to affect cellular and internet service.

All of that combined are logistical hurdles that could affect the race weekend. That’s to say nothing of the emergency response crews that service race weekends that could be needed to battle the fires if they sprawl further out of control.
