LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau trashes world golf rankings: ‘It’s almost obsolete now’

LIV Golfer and former PGA Tour star Bryson DeChambeau is no fan of the world golf rankings and believes a major decision by the organization has started to make it pointless.

LIV Golf’s war with the PGA Tour has been the biggest story in the sport of the last two years. The league backed by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund has been able to lure superstar talent from the PGA — like Bryson DeChambeau — by offering massive signing bonuses and record-breaking tournament winnings.

To counter LIV’s fast-growing influence on the sport, the PGA Tour and entities with close ties to the legendary golf circuit have tried to cut LIV players off from certain parts of the sport. LIV Golfers can’t compete in PGA and DP events, and until this year, were unable to play in the four majors.

However, one of the biggest ramifications that came from players signing with LIV is the fact that their performances are no longer recognized by the Official World Golf Rankings (OGWR). For example, Talor Gooch won the upstart league’s recent event in Australia, yet he fell two spots in the recent rankings.

It is something former PGA star Bryson DeChambeau spoke about ahead of the LIV Golf event in Singapore this week. However, he didn’t just give a boring politically correct opinion on the situation, instead, he slammed the rankings and claimed they are headed to being obsolete if they continue their stance about star golfers in LIV.

“They are going to run out of business pretty soon as you should realize that the OWGR is not accurate. It’s pretty much almost obsolete as of right now. … It’s very disappointing, that’s the way it goes because it’s not right, and I hope people can see through that.”

The 2020 US Open champion wanted to go further with his comments, however, he stopped himself due to being a part of an ongoing anti-trust lawsuit between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.

LIV has received a great deal of blowback for its connection to the Saudi Arabian government. The nation has a terrible history of human rights violations and is reportedly using investments in popular sports to try and clean up its damaged image with Western fans and governments.
