The Detroit Lions on Friday waived kicker Austin Seibert, who has been dealing with a groin injury.
While the Lions didn’t announce another move at the position, Michael Badgely is expected to kick for the Lions (1-3) on Sunday at the New England Patriots (1-3).
After trying out kickers on Tuesday, the Lions signed Badgely and placed him on the practice squad.
Badgely kicked for the Bears on Sunday and was released on Monday. He was 4-for-4 on field goal attempts and accounted for all of Chicago’s points in a 20-12 loss to the New York Giants.
Badgely was a short-term answer for the Bears with Chicago kicker Cairo Santos out to tend to a personal matter.
With Seibert sidelined last Sunday, kicker Dominik Eberle made his Lions debut. Eberle missed two of his four extra-point attempts and sent a kickoff out of bounds in a 48-45 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Seibert, a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2019, has made 44 of 53 field goal attempts and converted 55 of 61 extra point tries in 30 games with the Browns, Lions and Cincinnati Bengals.
