Detroit Lions cornerback Saivion Smith is in the concussion protocol but tests on his neck came back negative after Sunday’s scary incident at New England, ESPN and NFL Network reported Monday.

Smith, 24, left the field in an ambulance early in the first quarter against the Patriots after getting tangled up with New England tight end Hunter Henry. It’s not clear how Smith was injured on the play.

Smith was transported to a hospital. However, he was later released after undergoing tests and flew home on the team plane.

Smith was elevated from the practice squad and drew the start against the Pats, just the second of his career and first with the Lions. It was his 10th NFL game since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2020.
