Report: LiAngelo Ball, Cody Riley and Jalen Hill arrested for shoplifting in China

Three UCLA men’s basketball players have been arrested in China for shoplifting, according to ESPN’s Jeff Goodman. The group includes LiAngelo Ball, as well as Cody Riley and Jalen Hill. All three are freshmen.

So, to say the least, this is bad. It’s unclear exactly what will happen to these three now, as being arrested in China has markedly different consequences than being arrested in the United States. However, it would be surprising if they were to play in the Bruins’ game against Georgia Tech on Friday.

UCLA released a statement: “We are aware of a situation involving UCLA student-athletes in Hangzhou, China. The University is cooperating fully with local authorities on this matter, and we have no further comment at this time,” per Jeff Goodman of ESPN.

Lavar Ball, the outspoken father of LiAngelo, has yet to comment. It will certainly be interesting to see what he has to say on the situation, if anything at all. As for Lonzo, LiAngelo’s brother, the Lakers don’t play until tomorrow. It’s unlikely we see him comment until then.

Hopefully everything turns out for the best.
