There has been a LeBron James sign in downtown Cleveland since the star rejoined the Cleveland Cavaliers, but it is coming down for the upcoming RNC (Republican National Committee) convention.
ABC News 5 in Cleveland is reporting that, just days after the Cavs won the first title in franchise history and broke the city’s 52-year title drought, the signature sign will indeed be replaced for the upcoming convention. The sign was just updated to reflect the championship, with the word “Champions” crowning James head.
Just a shade of irony exists when you consider the new sign that is taking the place of the classic James banner. The Sherwin WilliamsĀ sign will read “this land is our land,” which could certainly irk some of the locals, who’ve only been waiting for a chance to celebrate a championship since 1964.
Needless to say, there is already a move against this by the team’s fans.

The petition’s author, Kathy Springer, believesĀ “This banner is the BEST message we can show to anyone visiting our town for the RNC, per theĀ change.org petition page.
It’s hard to argue with Springer, or with the people of Cleveland who have already signed the petition.
