For the second year in a row, the Las Vegas Raiders need a franchise quarterback but aren’t in a prime position to select one in the NFL Draft. While Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew are still under contract for next season, the Raiders know they must upgrade at the most important position in football.
One other way the Raiders can take a step forward is by targeting a veteran QB upgrade and there’s one who’s reportedly generating a heavy amount of interest from the team’s brass.

Las Vegas Raiders show ‘significant interest’ in Matthew Stafford

The Las Vegas Raiders are desperate to upgrade at quarterback this offseason. The good news is they’ll have plenty of options, whether it’s in free agency, through trade, or even in the NFL Draft.
Yet, according to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Raiders, along with the New York Giants, have expressed “significant interest” in trading for Matthew Stafford this offseason.
Taking things a step further, Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz indicates that Raiders minority owner Tom Brady recently hosted Stafford at his Montana home, where the two quarterbacks went skiing together. Brady is said to be “actively trying to convince Stafford to join the Raiders.”

While the Rams would prefer to keep their Super Bowl-winning QB, they’ve also granted his agent permission to find a proper trade destination for Stafford as he seeks a pay raise.
The Raiders are flush with cap space, and Stafford would reportedly like to receive a contract that pays him at least $50 million in annual average value. While he is 37, Stafford helped lead the Rams to a playoff appearance and even snuck away with a win in the Wild Card Round.
As for the aging veteran, he could view the Raiders as an opportunity where he can win with new coach Pete Carroll coming on board, and he’d get to stay close to California, where he and his wife Kelly Stafford have made their home.
