Baseball isn’t considered much of a contact sport. But every once in a while, a scary incident comes up that reminds us that it can be a dangerous game.
Such an incident occurred Thursday night in Arizona when Chicago Cubs slugger Kyle Schwarber was carted off the field following a collision with teammate Dexter Fowler in the outfield:
After attempting to walk off on his own power, Schwarber was carted off the field with what appeared to be a lower leg/ankle injury.
The injury looks to be pretty darn significant. And the simple fact that Schwarber couldn’t walk off the field after trainers checked him out is not a good sign.
The Cubs have yet to provide an update regarding the injury.
The 23-year-old Schwarber hit .246 with 16 homers and 43 RBI as a rookie last season.
