So much for the idea that Cleveland Cavaliers forward Kevin Love was a near certainty to return to the team. While that may very well still be the case, ESPN’S Chris Broussard released some rather interesting information on the heels of free agency opening up at midnight east coast time on Wednesday morning:
Sources: Lakers have spoken with reps for Kevin Love & a meeting this week is planned.

The Lakers have long been viewed as a potential suitor for Love, even before he was traded from Minnesota to Cleveland last summer. Now that Love has opted out and is an unrestricted free agent, it shouldn’t be a surprise that they are interested.
Kevin Love has indicated to Cavs recently he plans to return. Cavs also hope to execute Brendan Haywood contract trade quickly after July 1.

The bigger surprise here is that Love is planning to meet with a team other than the Cavaliers, who can offer the most money of any team in the Association. A flood of reports in recent days have indicated that Love was likely going to return to Cleveland. That led many to the believe that he wouldn’t even be fielding meetings with other teams.
As it relates to the Lakers, Love is just one of many top-end free agents set to be in play for the team. LaMarcus Aldridge is meeting with Lakers brass in Southern California Tuesday night. In addition to this, they have been linked to everyone from DeAndre Jordan and Dwyane Wade to Greg Monroe.
