Former New Orleans Saints’ wide receiver Kenny Stills became a member of the Miami Dolphins after a quickly developing trade took place on Friday. Hours later, wide receiver Mike Wallace, who was put on the trade block, was acquired by the Minnesota Vikings in another trade.
After the trades took place, Stills had this to say regarding his upcoming role and any correlation with Wallace (via ESPN).
I don’t think I was brought in to replace anybody. I’m just here to do whatever I can to help the team win. Mike is a great player, and I’ve looked up to everything he’s done.
Stills makes for a much cheaper option as a deep threat and arrives with tons of upside. Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey referred to Stills as “an ascending player.” We might come to the assumption that the team viewed Wallace, who was slated to earn $9.85 million in 2015, as a “descending” player.
Regarding Hickey’s reference to Stills, he shared this:
I’m not focusing on my ceiling right now. I’m just excited to be here, happy to be here and working my tail off to make sure I can maximize my potential.
Where Wallace and quarterback Ryan Tannehill never quite meshed, Stills comes to Miami with a clean slate and should be a nice complement to second-year wide receiver Jarvis Landry.
