After news broke of Justin Hunter’s alleged involvement in a bar fight, many thought the Tennessee Titans receiver was finished in the NFL. Not only has that not been the case to this point, but Hunter’s attorney is now hopeful his client will be completely exonerated of all charges against him.
Hunter was arrested in late July after one man was admitted to a Virginia Beach hospital due to injuries suffered in a brawl outside a local bar. Hunter was charged with felonious assault after prosecutors alleged he was the aggressor in the fight.
However, according to attorney Toby Vick, nothing could be further from the truth.
“I can tell you I’m confident that Justin didn’t do what he’s been charged with and that I have significant concerns about the credibility of the accuser,” Vick said Monday (h/t John Glennon of The Tennessean). “I think our evidence will show, and I’m not going into specific details, that maybe even the group that includes the guy bringing the charges were the aggressors.”
Vick also mentioned there are witnesses that corroborate Hunter’s version of the story and that the people accusing the NFL receiver may be doing so in the hopes of landing some easy cash.
“I’m confident that this is going to end well for Justin. I just am, and I’ve been doing this for a long time.”
Nobody should expect Hunter’s lawyer to say anything negative about his client, but what he’s saying is plausible. There are always two sides to every story, and Hunter’s side deserves to be told in a court of law.
The receiver has ben well-received since returning to the team following his arrest. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt has stated that he and the team stands behind Hunter, and veteran receiver Harry Douglas also offered support.
“Justin is a strong-minded man, and he is here and ready to work,’’ Douglassaid recently, via the Titans official website. “He is ready to be a part of this team and grind and go hard. Justin has a good head on his shoulders and he does the right things. He has made great strides from last year to this year and we love to be around him.”
On the field, Hunter has a chance to retain a starting spot on the outside for the Titans. He’s fighting off rookie phenom Dorial Green-Beckham and veteran Hakeem Nicks at this time and figures to be a big part of the team’s offense this year.
The league is currently reviewing his case. Based on what’s happened in the recent past with others facing potential legal troubles, the NFL will likely hold off any judgement until this plays out.
