Josh Love completed 18 of 20 passes for 215 yards and three touchdowns and the Michigan Panthers scored 20 unanswered points to pull away in the second half and defeat the host Houston Gamblers 29-13 on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.
Joe Walker caught six passes for 105 yards and a 34-yard touchdown reception late in the game to deliver Michigan a win in its season opener.
Stevie Scott III rushed 12 times for 61 yards and a score for the Panthers.
Kenji Bahar went 13-for-22 passing for 109 yards and two second-half interceptions for the Gamblers. Houston also lost two fumbles in the second half.
T.J. Pledger gained 41 rushing yards and scored both of Houston’s touchdowns, establishing a 13-9 halftime lead before Michigan stormed back. Scott put the Panthers ahead 16-13 early in the third quarter before Trey Quinn and Walker caught TDs.
