Joe Burrow’s dad has hilarious quote on son’s rookie contract with Bengals

The moment the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft was likely the best day of the quarterback’s life. It turns out, the moment Burrow signed his rookie contract might be one of the greatest moments in his dad’s life.

Months after being drafted by the Bengals, Burrow finally signed his rookie contract with Cincinnati on Tuesday. While it’s a huge step as the 23-year-old begins his career, Jimmy Burrow got something great out of it, too.

Joe Burrow’s dad: “We finally got him outta our basement.”

Joe Burrow’s parents have been by his side all his life and played an essential role in his growth over the years. Burrow’s father saw his son transcend from an unknown college quarterback into a Heisman Trophy winner and national champion.

After not getting his opportunity at Ohio State, Burrow rebounded with the LSU Tigers and went on to become the No. 1 pick and now the league’s highest-paid rookie. While it’s something his parents are very proud of, his father couldn’t help but troll his son.

“We finally got him outta our basement,” Jimmy Burrow joked, via The Advocate.

With the deal finished and Burrow cleared to report for his first training camp, he can spend time training with his teammates in-person and working one-on-one with coaches. If the Bengals were concerned about the COVID-19 pandemic keeping their star rookie away from the playbook and practice field, Joey Burrow made sure to erase those worries.

“He got a lot of the playbook installed. He’s also been throwing with a couple of his high school buddies at their old third and fourth-grade practice field,” Burrow said.

The Bengals have every reason to be excited about their future with Burrow. Once he gets settled as the team’s starter and masters the scheme, this offense will surprise people this season.
