In news that will trump anything that happens during the first week of the NFL season, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly revealed on Thursday that he is now cancer-free (via Fox Sports).
This is some of the greatest news I’ve ever gotten,” Kelly said in a statement. “It’s been a long road, and I’m still not back to one hundred percent, but I have a lot to be thankful for.
The 11-year veteran of the Buffalo Bills has battled two different bouts with cancer of the jaw. He was first diagnosed back in 2013. And after going into remission, the cancer reappeared earlier this year.
As we reported last month, previous tests revealed that there were no sign of cancer in Kelly’s body. However, the news today came after a biopsy confirmed the good news. This means that Kelly is completely cancer-free.
The 54-year-old former Super Bowl quarterback had been undergoing chemotherapy over the past six months. And there was a time just recently that it didn’t seem he would overcome this latest life battle. That obviously isn’t the case anymore.
Here’s to continued health for Kelly and his family.
