When the New York Jets take the field against the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, they will honor former Jet Dennis Byrd, who passed away on Sunday.
ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported that New York’s players will wear a decal of Byrd’s No. 90 on their helmets. New York’s official Twitter feed previewed the look.

Byrd is a special player in Jets’ history. He played with the team and suffered a career ending neck injury in 1992 (graphic video here). According to Cimini, the team also wore a decal of his number after his injury.
The Jets subsequently honored Byrd by retiring his No. 90. That put him in company with Joe Namath (No. 12), Don Maynard (No. 13), Curtis Martin (No. 28), Joe Klecko (No. 73), and coach Weeb Ewbank, who’s honored with a jacket. Other than Byrd and Klecko, all of the other players (as well as Ewbank) so honored are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
