We might see a couple one-and-done head coaches around the NFL once Black Monday comes calling.
However, New York Jets head man Adam Gase won’t be one of them. Owner Christopher Johnson confirmed on Wednesday that Gase will be back for a second season with the team.
A hiring that drew scrutiny in the first place, it just has not worked out for Gase and the Jets thus far this season. New York heads into Week 11 with a 2-7 record and ranked 30th in the league in scoring.
Without any real success as the Miami Dolphins’ head coach over the past three seasons, people initially questioned why New York would turn to Gase.
However, it’s hard for an NFL team to blow things up less than a year after making such a questionable hiring. The Jets are now doubling down on the Gase experiment.
It’s a bold strategy. We’ll see if it works. Given Gase’s 25-32 record as an NFL head coach, we’re not too optimistic.
