Dallas Cowboys defensive end Greg Hardy made a couple horrible comments during a locker-room interview Tuesday, and team owner Jerry Jones was caught off-guard when told about the words.
According to Melissa Jacobs of Sports Illustrated, Jones hadn’t heard what Hardy said before the reporter asked him a question about the defensive end.
“‘Oh my goodness.’Â [Jones] then briefly paused before offering an explanation.
“Well, you’re not allowed to have guns on the football field. We all know that’s just a way of expressing yourself. I hope his guns are ablazin.'”
Jones quickly put on his best public relations hat, but his initial reaction about Hardy says it all.
For someone who was accused of throwing his ex-girlfriend onto couch filled with rifles, Hardy made a shockingly terrible statement. Not only was it a serious lapse of judgment by the defensive end, but the Cowboys PR staff didn’t do anything about it, either.
Worst of all, though, the whole session was full of repugnant errors. Hardy also commented on Tom Brady’s wife, and a reporter even brought up Blake Bortles’ girlfriend because she’s attractive, too. That’s simply disgusting, and shame on the reporter for mentioning it.
Katie Nolan of Fox Sports 1 ranted about this exact topic, and her perspective on the Hardy mess is absolutely worth your time.
