For the second time in three years, James McFadden is going to miss the start of the national Sprint Car season due to travel issues between Australia and the United States.
This time, he was set to race full-time in the Roth Motorsports No. 83 with the High Limit Series but will be replaced by Dominic Scelzi until he is permitted to return starting Monday and Tuesday when the season begins at East Bay Raceway Park.
He missed the start of the 2021 World of Outlaws season due to the birth of son Maverick, but then held in the country due to its COVID regulations.
“Roth Motorsports is like a second home to me, so when I got the call I didn’t hesitate to accept to help them out,” Scelzi said. “I wish it wasn’t under these circumstances with James McFadden dealing with issues getting back over here, but I am hopeful I can help the team get off to a strong start with the High Limit Series.”
It’s still important for the car to be fielded until McFadden returns because the top-five cars in the owner’s standings earn charters that become active in the 2026 season. It’s also a chance for Scelzi to get some experience on the tour before the races he planned to enter this year while also getting a chance to compete at East Bay before its closed at the end of the year.
“I’m excited to visit East Bay for the first time and get to race on the track before it’s gone,” Scelzi said. “Also, I’m planning to compete in some High Limit races in the Midwest this spring so this gets it started a little sooner.”
Scelzi has previously been supported by the Roths with his personal car back home in California as well.
“Aside from Dennis and Teresa Roth, Todd Ventura, and James, I also want to thank Toyota Racing Development and Mobil 1 for trusting me with driving responsibilities at such an important part of the season,” Scelzi concluded.
