Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence will start Sunday’s game against the host Cleveland Browns.
Lawrence, 24, sustained a high ankle sprain during the team’s 34-31 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday. He returned to practice Thursday in a limited capacity and participated in a pregame workout in Cleveland on Sunday before the Jaguars confirmed he is good to play against the Browns.
Lawrence did not miss a start during college at Clemson. He has yet to miss a start in his NFL career since being selected by the Jaguars with the first overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Lawrence has 3,004 yards passing, 14 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 94.4 passer rating on the season. He also has 248 yards rushing with four scores on the ground.
Multiple media outlets reported Cleveland will turn to quarterback Joe Flacco for the second straight week.
Flacco didn’t look uncomfortable last week in a 36-19 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Pressed into the starting role 14 days after signing with the team as a street free agent, Flacco had the Browns driving for the go-ahead score, trailing 20-19 in the fourth quarter, when he threw an interception.
Flacco, 38, completed 23 of 44 passes for 254 yards with two touchdowns and that one pick.
While Flacco is active, the Browns (7-5) listed the following players as inactive: cornerback Denzel Ward, linebacker Mohamoud Diabate, center Luke Wypler, defensive end Isaiah McGuire, defensive tackle Siaki Ika and offensive tackle Dawand Jones.
As for the Jaguars (8-4), cornerbacks Tyson Campbell and Tre Herndon, linebacker Yasir Abdullah, offensive lineman Walker Little, tight end Brenton Strange, defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi and quarterback Nathan Rourke are inactive.
