After going 4-13 last season, it’s safe to say the Jacksonville Jaguars were one of the NFL’s most disappointing teams in 2024. A team that was expected to compete for a playoff spot ended up earning the fifth overall pick instead, getting head coach Doug Pederson and general manager Trent Baalke fired in the process.

But now new leadership is taking over the Jaguars and they’re already shaking the tree.

When the Jacksonville Jaguars signed Christian Kirk to a four-year, $72 million contract in March of 2022, it came as a massive shock. Here was a 5-foot-11 receiver who had never reached 1,000 receiving yards in a single NFL season, yet he was suddenly being paid as a top-five receiver.

Fast forward to 2025 and Kirk has a 1,100-yard season under his belt and his average of $16 million per season pales in comparison to the top receiver market, where Minnesota Vikings All-Pro Justin Jefferson averages $35 million per season.

Yet, Kirk’s $24.1 million 2025 cap hit was apparently too rich for the Jaguars’ blood.

According to ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Jaguars have released Kirk from the roster, saving $10.7 million in the process. Kirk immediately becomes a free agent, allowing him to sign with any team he wants.

Kirk is coming off a season in which he was limited to just eight games due to injury, recording 379 yards and a touchdown. Now he’ll look to latch on with another team.
