J.J. Watt Named AP Defensive Player of the Year

Consider yourself in complete and utter shock here. Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt has been named the Associated Press Defensive Player of the Year for the 2014 regular season.

This was seen as an inevitability around the league, especially considering Watt’s status as a NFL MVP candidate.

In addition to putting up five total touchdowns, Watt recorded nearly 80 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 10 passes defended and five fumble recoveries. Seen by some as the best player in the NFL, Watt’s emergence among the great players at his position in the modern history of the league stems from  a work ethic that is unmatched in the NFL today.

Watt previously took home Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012 when he tallied 20.5 sacks as well. However, his overall performance this year takes the cake as one of the best seasons for a defensive player in the history of the league.
