Top seed Iga Swiatek of Poland used a dominating performance to defeat No. 2 Jessica Pegula 6-3, 6-0 and win the Qatar TotalEnergies Open in Doha on Saturday.
The title is the first of the year for Swiatek, the World No. 1 who already has 12 tournament wins at age 21. She won the final eight games to close out the match, defending her title in one hour and nine minutes.
Swiatek capitalized on six of nine break opportunities — three in each set of the WTA 500 event — to take a 5-2 lead in the head-to-head series with Pegula.
Pegula had few answers for the service game of Swiatek, who won 72 percent of the points on her first serve, compared to 47 percent for Pegula. The American won only 26 percent of the points on her second serve.
