The Miami Heat and their fans were all about celebrating future Hall of Fame guard Dwyane Wade prior to his final regular-season home game Tuesday evening.
Wade, 37, is prepared to call it quits after spending 15 of his 17 NBA seasons in South Beach.
Though, there was still some hope that Miami could inch into the playoffs and extend Wade’s career by at least a few games.
That’s now not going to happen.
By virtue of the Detroit Pistons’ win over the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday evening, Miami has officially been eliminated from playoff contention.
This means that Wade’s historical career will come to an end Wednesday night in Brooklyn against the Nets.
There’s probably not a better place outside of Miami for the legend to finish up his career than in the Mecca of the basketball world — New York City.
A sure-fire first-ballot Hall of Famer, Wade will retire having won three NBA titles and earning 13 All-Star Game appearances.
So long, old friend.
