Gov. Rick Scott proclaims UCF national champions in state of Florida

UCF Knights celebrate win over South Florida on Black Friday

Continuing what the UCF Knights have proclaimed since beating Auburn in the Peach Bowl on New Year’s Day, Florida Governor Rick Scott has declared UCF as national champions.

Breaking down his reasons, step by step, Scott makes a compelling argument that, at the least, needs to be a wake-up call for the CFP selection committee in coming years.

UCF did finish the season as the only undefeated FBS team in the nation. It also should have been much higher than No. 12 heading into bowl season, a point we made crystal clear after the Knights took down South Florida in the American Athletic Conference Championship Game.

The fact that the Knights weren’t even remotely close to being given a shot at competing for the playoff was a disgrace. It’s one the school and its football program isn’t taking lying down, and now the entire state of Florida stands with the Knights.
