Despite the Golden State Warriors already having a stacked roster that features four NBA All-Stars, a team can never have too much talent. And, as we witnessed, even the Warriors’ current build wasn’t quite enough to repeat and reach the NBA Finals last season.
Teams are always churning their rosters, trying to find the right mix of players, and that’s no different for the Warriors, who are now making the transition from Bob Myers to Mike Dunleavy Jr. in the front office.
One of the moves the team has already discussed is trading for future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul, who was just sent from the Phoenix Suns to the Washington Wizards in the Bradley Beal trade. It’s possible CP3 is now re-routed to another destination, likely a competitive situation, such as in Los Angeles with the Lakers or Clippers or even in the Bay Area with the Warriors instead.
According to Shams Charania, the Warriors were trying to negotiate a trade for the 38-year-old guard prior to him being dealt to Washington. It’s possible those talks resume now, or even if Paul is bought out of his contract with the Wizards.
On the surface, Paul would appear to be a strange fit for a team that has Stephen Curry holding down the lead ball-handler position, but Paul isn’t getting any younger, and his body isn’t getting any healthier.
After making just 59 appearances last season, it’s possible the 17-year-pro would embrace a role off the bench, only in a situation where he could chase his first championship ring. In that sense, perhaps the Warriors would be a strong fit for the 12-time All-Star.
