The dollar amounts of the paychecks for the French Open singles champions and the total prize money for the tournament have increased for 2023, organizers for the Grand Slam event announced Friday.
The French Tennis Federation announced the singles champions each will receive 2.3 million euros — approximately $2.51 million in U.S. dollars. Those numbers match the same pay received by the winners of the tournament in 2019. The money totals dropped during the coronavirus pandemic (1.6 million euros in 2020 and 1.4 million euros in 2021) before jumping back to 2.2 million euros in 2022.
The total prize money will elevate to $54.6 million this year, up from 12.3 percent in 2022.
The French Open takes place from May 28-June 11 at Roland Garros in Paris.
