Four NFL teams guaranteed to lose in Week 3

Matthew Stafford

Week 3 brings some NFL matchups which will upset some perfect records and keep other teams from achieving their first win.

Here are four teams that have the cards stacked against them entering into Week 3 which guarantees losses this Sunday.

The tide will change for the 2-0 Dallas Cowboys who are trying to hold their team together with some jumbo-sized bandages when they host the 2-0 Atlanta Falcons in Week 3.

The Falcons have been on fire this season and are playing quite successfully under their new coach Dan Quinn.

As for the Cowboys, they’ve taken some major bullets which leaves them with quarterback Brandon Weeden under center. Weeden sports a nasty 5-16 win/loss starting record when he takes the stage on Sunday.

The last Weeden started for Tony Romo was in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals last year when he threw two interceptions and one touchdown stemming from only 183 passing yards.

Going for Dallas is that their secondary has been quite stout so far, allowing only 417 quarterback passing yards one passing touchdown in two weeks. However that was to Eli Manning who had opening night jitters and to Sam Bradford who just has issues.

Now the Cowboys defense must toughen up to face the Matt Ryan/Julio Jones combination. Jones has tallied a ridiculous 276 receiving yards and two touchdowns in two weeks. The Falcons offense will be a difficult one to keep limited and the Cowboys are bound to make their fair share of errors with Weeden calling the signals.

As much as Jerry Jones has faith in his backup quarterback playing without Dez Bryant, Week 3 is when the Cowboys lose their first game of the season.

The Pittsburgh Steelers offense just got done ripping the 49ers defense to shreds when Ben Roethlisberger for passed 369 yards and DeAngelo Williams launched three rushing touchdowns on them last week.

Things do not appear to look any easier for the 49ers in Week 3 when they play on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. Carson Palmer is on a tremendous scoring roll and the team has totaled 79 points in two weeks. Furthermore, Palmer is 15-2 in his last 17 game starts.

While Colin Kaepernick gave it a valiant effort last week passing for 335 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions, he will be facing a much better defense that has only allowed 42 points to be scored so far this season.

Look for the Cardinals and Palmer, who has a whopping seven passing touchdowns so far, to be unstoppable on Sunday, handily outscoring the 49ers along the way.

Philadelphia Eagles

Sam Bradford Eagles

If the Eagles want a reprieve from their losing streak, it won’t come on Sunday when they travel to play the mighty – yes mighty New York Jets.

A Sam Bradford-led Eagles have been an utter disaster thus far in the regular season making their impressive preseason seem like years ago. Bradford is struggling to connect with his receivers and he has four interceptions, one fumble and only two touchdowns to show for his efforts.

And, nevermind the Eagles run game, because there is only a shred of one on the books. Between the Eagles star rusher DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews and Darren Sproles, the trio has piled up a paltry total of 61 rushing yards for two games. This is a stat that will be hard-pressed to improve against the taunting Jets secondary that has only allowed 115 running back rushing yards and zero scores to the position this season.

The Jets defense made a mockery out of the Indianapolis Colts on Monday evening and the same is in store for a floundering Eagles this week.

Look for the Jets to slice and dice an ineffective Eagles offense while Fitzpatrick and company – who have not been too shabby, continue to put scores on the board and challenge Philly’s soft secondary in Week 3.

The poor Lions who are looking for their first win of the season are not going to find it against the Denver Broncos in Week 3.

So far in two weeks, the Broncos have only allowed 37 points to be scored against them. Worse yet is they have limited opposing quarterbacks to an average of only 154 passing yards and zero touchdowns per game.

Thus far in the season, Matthew Stafford and the Lions have been awful at the line of scrimmage, and Denver’s brutal defense that has registered seven sacks, four interceptions and three fumble recoveries spells a recipe for disaster.

While the Broncos have some issues in their offense they’ll be going up against the Lions defense that has allowed the third-highest rushing yards (245) and 12th-most passing yards (557) in the past two weeks.

Additionally, the Broncos defense is the only one to have scored two pick sixes so far this season. Stafford, who is a bit banged up could certainly help the Denver “D” improve on this stat when the ship goes down at home on Sunday.
