Forte installed as 5-2 favorite at Belmont

Kentucky Derby contender Forte and exercise rider Hector Ramos work out at Churchill Downs on Wednesday.

Forte, a late scratch at the Kentucky Derby, drew the No. 6 post position and was installed as the 5-2 favorite for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes in Elmont, N.Y.

At 3-1 and out of the No. 2 position is Tapit Trice, who could give trainer Todd Pletcher his fifth Belmont win. Pletcher also trains Forte.

Also in the nine-horse field at Belmont Park is National Treasure, the winner of the Preakness Stakes on May 20. The Bob Baffert-trained horse will run from the No. 4 position and has 5-1 odds.

Those are longer odds than those for Angel of Empire, a 7-2 bet out of the No. 8 position.

Mage, who won the Kentucky Derby, is not entered at Belmont. With no Triple Crown on the line, the horse instead is being prepared to run in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga Race Course this summer.

Race time Saturday for the 12-furlong race is approximately 7:02 p.m. ET. FOX Sports will televise the race.
