Former Rutgers HC Chris Ash working with Texas ahead of Oklahoma game

The Red River Shootout is going to be something at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday as No. 6 Oklahoma takes on the 11th-ranked Texas Longhorns.

It’s always one of the games we look forward to the most on an annual basis. We also now have a new wrinkle. Texas has brought in recently-fired former Rutgers head coach Chris Ash to work with the coaching staff ahead of this game.

Ash was fired by Rutgers after a 1-4 start to the 2019 season and posted a disastrous 8-32 mark with the program.

However, he had success as the Ohio State defensive coordinator in 2014 and 2015. That 2014 season saw current Texas head coach Tom Herman act as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator.

The hope here is that Ash can help Texas overcome what has been a dominating Sooners offense led by Heisman candidate Jalen Hurts.
