Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell agreed to terms on an “enhanced” contract, the university announced Friday.

Norvell was rumored to be a candidate for the Alabama coaching job, which opened this week following the retirement of Nick Saban.

Per reports, Norvell’s new contract is for eight years and more than $10 million per season. ESPN reported that Florida State also made a commitment to Norvell to increase funding for additional resources for football.

Norvell, 42, previously signed a contract extension in February that paid him an average of $7.8 million per season and spanned through the 2029 campaign. The Seminoles posted a 13-1 record this season under Norvell, who is 31-17 during his four seasons at Florida State and 69-33 overall including his tenure at Memphis (2016-19).

The Seminoles finished tied with Oregon in sixth place in the Associated Press Top 25 final poll of the season.

“Coach Norvell is an incredible person, and we are lucky that he is leading our football program,” Florida State president Richard McCullough said. “… We are grateful to him for reinvigorating our football program. As (Atlantic Coast Conference) Coach of the Year, Mike Norvell could have gone anywhere. He chose FSU. The climb has begun, and I am excited to see the heights this program will reach under Coach Norvell’s continued leadership. Go Noles!”

Norvell said Florida State has become his home.

“We came to Tallahassee four years ago, and it was a life-changing experience,” Norvell said. “Knowing the great history, tradition and expectation has guided our staff on a daily basis. It has been an incredible journey these last four years, and I have fallen in love with this program, the university and the people who I get to represent. I am so excited to continue our climb to push Florida State back to the top of college football.”
