FC Dallas acquired Croatian striker Petar Musa from Portugal’s Benfica for a club-record fee on Thursday.

Multiple reports said the transfer fee was 10 million Euros, or roughly $10.8 million USD.

Musa, 25, agreed to a four-year contract through 2027 with a club option for 2028.

FC Dallas also paid $100,000 in 2024 general allocation money to the New England Revolution for his discovery priority.

“We’ve secured a world-class attacker in the prime of his career in Petar,” said Andre Zanotta, FC Dallas technical director. “His versatility and proven skills against top-level opponents makes him a formidable addition to our team. Petar’s signing marks a historic moment for us.”

Musa spent the past two years with Benfica in Portugal’s top flight and scored 17 goals in 66 appearances. Benfica won the Primeira Liga in 2022-23 and captured the Portuguese Super Cup.

“Petar is a player of a very high level. I want to thank the owners for being able to bring Petar on board, for the effort that the owners have made in signing him,” said FC Dallas head coach Nico Estevez. “We are looking forward to working with him to help him provide FC Dallas fans with many goals.”

Musa previously played professionally in Germany, the Czech Republic and his native Croatia before joining Benfica.
