If the Baltimore Ravens let running back Justin Forsett test the free agency next month, the Atlanta Falcons may decide to make a move on the 29-year-old running back.
Apparently, the Atlanta Falcons have a “strong interest” if Forsett does indeed hit the free agency, according to Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com.
If this interest seems like it is coming out of nowhere, there’s an explanation for it. Forsett played with the Seattle Seahawks from 2008-2011. New Falcons head coach Dan Quinn was a member of Seattle’s staff for two of those seasons.
It’s also important to note that Forsett dominated his blocking assignments, which is something new Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan stresses.
While the Falcons have growing confidence in second-year running back Devonta Freeman, the team still needs an additional running back with veteran Steven Jackson likely being released and Jacquizz Rodgers ready to hit the free agency.
Forsett is coming off of his career-high season where he led the NFL at 5.4 yards per carry. He also accumulated 1,266 rushing yards and scored eight rushing touchdowns.
Forsett’s numbers look fantastic on paper, and he does carry appeal with his ties to the leaders in Atlanta. However, at 29, Forsett does not necessarily make the ideal option for teams looking at a long-term solution.
