Evander Kane agreed to a four-year deal to remain with the Edmonton Oilers, the forward announced Wednesday on Twitter.
He said the contract has an average annual value of $5.125 million. The team retweeted his post, adding heart emojis.
After a playing parts of four seasons with the San Jose Sharks — much of his time there was marked in controversy — the Oilers took a chance on Kane and signed him to a free-agent deal in January.
“A big part of my decision to stay in Edmonton was because of the opportunity given to me only 7 months ago but also the chance to be a part of a championship team,” Kane wrote. “I want to win, and I believe after signing this deal we will be able to add the right pieces along with myself to accomplish that goal, a championship.”

The Oilers were swept by the Colorado Avalanche in the Western Conference finals this spring.
Kane, who turns 31 next month, appeared in 43 games for the Oilers in his first season in Edmonton. He had 39 points (22 goals, 17 assists).
In the playoffs, Kane had a team-leading 13 goals and four assists in 15 games.
Kane’s January signing with the Oilers came after the NHL cleared him of further punishment over his violation of COVID-19 protocols. He was hit with a 21-game suspension in October for submitting a fake vaccination card.
Kane played the rest of the 2021-22 season on a one-year veteran’s minimum salary worth $750,000 with a signing bonus.
His previous team, the Sharks, terminated the remainder of his $48 million deal for the violation. He filed a grievance over the move.
